Was it a foggy night?
I don’t remember, out here
Among the Pleiades laughing.

When I wrote this poem, I had the good fortune to live on a hilltop in the Hollywood Hills. One night, driving up into the hills through dense, low-lying fog, I suddenly burst out into brilliant starlight—with all of the city’s light pollution trapped in the fog below me.
