BY MEGAN FOX, ILLINOIS, U.S.A.

A dark ocean paints the sky,
And the pale moon sets itself
Into the canvas of the night.

The brush strokes illuminate
The inviting pale glow of the stars
Over the tiny blue dot below.

The Earth, the dot, it rotates around,
Humming silently to the electric tune
Of the transcribed humanity.

This song of time has barely started,
Sounding notes of triumph and defeat,
While the moon follows swiftly in the canvas of the sky.

It follows the rythym of the tune,
Pushing and pulling in unison with the Earth;
In a dance of centuries past and a dance of centuries more.

This poem was the third-place winner in AWB’s Global Astronomy Month (GAM) 2013 AstroPoetry Contest, Young Adult Division.
