The 4.2-m William Herschel Telescope was built in 1987 and is part of the Isaac Newton Group of Telescopes (ING) in La Palma (Canary Islands). It was named after the Hanoverian-British astronomer and musician who: -discovered the planet Uranus in 1781, a few of its satellites and more binary and multiple stars; -composed many symphonies, concertos and sonatas; -built more telescopes. Certainly, to see the WHT together with the Milky Way could be a fine dream for any sky lover. Comments You need JavaScript to be able to post comments You need to be logged in to leave a comment...

The Milky Way has always delighted the sky lovers. To catch a better vision, Valentin Grigore (president of the Romanian Society for Meteors and Astronomy-SARM) planed in the end of May 2014 a Romanian-Dutch expedition to La Palma, Canary Islands, and this image is one of the best astrophotographic results. Dominic Diamant - photo by Andrei Dorian Gheorghe     HAIKU I know a miracle as great as the Universe; it’s a man, it’s me! -1997- NEWTON’S APPLE When Newton just slept, something fell on his head. “God, how could the Paradise be if even here, on Earth, with an apple you hit me!” “Do not lament like a king, but understand: what you saw represents, in fact, a LAW!” -2007- YOU HAVE NO REASON TO ABANDON If you are not a victim of the infinite war and your trajectory ripples pathetically and unpredictably You have no reason to abandon the...

(  Zigmund Tauberg - p hoto by Andrei Dorian Gheorghe)     In old times, people looked curiously at the canopy of heaven, aspiring to know the truth about the stars and about their wonderful secrets. Later, people built lunettes and telescopes, which presented the stars closer. And then, in order to see further and to study more (is it possible to exist in other worlds brothers in reason?), people launched the space telescope, Hubble, the eye created to expand our bit in the infinite.   ADG note: Zigmund Tauberg published this astropoem for the first time in 2010 in...

Fog image by Andee Sherwood Sweet, salty air fills the sky tonight as clouds float in off the sea. No reason to question why it comes I'm just thankful it comes to me. No stars above, no moonlight glow, deep fog shields celestial light. An endless gray floats silently, Misty darkness chills the night. At midnight’s hour, the sky anew, the fog disappears to the east. The moon revives, the stars aglow, The view, a heavenly feast.
