On 12th of April 2017, as every year since 2009, the local Viennese-Association-"Der ORION" celebrated Yuri's Night. Together with the "Austrian Space Forum" (OEWF) and partners from space science & industry. The accompanying programm included top-class lectures and a visit from an femal Italian ISS astronaut - Samantha Cristoforetti - and the yearly awards show "Polarsternpreis" (Polarstarprize) given to people who enthuse people for space, space travel, space science & astronomy.
Following some photographic impressions of this great evening in the NHM (Natur Historisches Museum):
Andreas Weise (raumfahrer.net) telling about a forgetten Russian Cosmonaut
Mag. Christa Bernert from the Austrian government department presenting a video from fti-remixed, a platform for technolgy, research and innovation for young people
Dr. Gudrun Wanner from "Max Planck- Albert Einstein Institute" in Hannover, gave a fascinating talk about gravitational waves.
Mag. Monika Fischer (OEWF) interviewed ISS-astronaut Samantha Cristoforetti
Samantha delivered 3 "TiuTerra-crystals", which have been in the space station for 6 month, back to OEWF. This TiuTerra-crystals are a special project from OEWF in collaboration with Swarovski.
As you can see - I had this year's pleasure and honor to get the "Polarsternpreis 2017" handed out by DI Dr. Norbert Frischauf (managing committee OEWF)
And the following picture shows 2 AWB-NCs at Yuri's Night. I had the pleasure to meet DI Dr. Liliana Gracanin, AWB-National Coordinator from Serbia, who is working at the Vienna Institute of Astronomy. She took part in this evening event and it was a great surprise and pleasure for us to meet here :-)
